Creative Writing Minor
Why Study Creative Writing?
Express yourself with a Creative Writing minor at 禁漫天堂! The minor gives students the opportunity to take classes in poetry and prose. Study the art of the short story, or the emerging field of creative non-fiction. The program is designed to be flexible so that it can be paired with any major.
What types of writing will I study in the Creative Writing program?
You will study a variety of fiction and non-fiction genres, including:
- Short Stories

Creative Writing Classes
As a Creative Writing minor, you will take a variety of courses in fiction, creative non-fiction, and even art and graphic design. You will complete your studies with a capstone course - CW 386 Word, Web, and Design - that will apply your skills to digital projects.
Students can choose from these writing-based electives:
- COM 424 - Script and Screenwriting
- EN 180 - CE Introduction to Creative Writing
- EN 280 - Creative Writing - Poetry, Prose
- EN 281 - CE Writing and Analyzing the Short Story
- EN 286 - Creative Non-Fiction
- EN 287 - Writing Children's Literature
- EN 381 - Advanced Fiction Writing
- TH 240 鈥� Playwriting
Additionally, they have the option of taking these image-based electives:
- ART 105 - CE Drawing I
- ART 207 - Introduction to Graphic Design
- ART 145 - CE Digital Photography (COM 145)

Writing Resources on Campus
In addition to bringing authors and poets to campus as part of our Bowers Writers House programming, we foster students鈥� creative expression through our clubs and activities on campus. Fine Print is the campus literary magazine, which is open to all students to submit creative writing and artwork. The Creative Writing Club provides a space for writers to meet and share feedback. Occasionally, the High Library hosts fiction readings where students are invited to share their work.
