Academic Advising

The School of Graduate and Professional Studies offers a nurturing environment that empowers adult learners to achieve their educational, career, and personal aspirations. Aligned with the College's mission, our academic advisors equip students with essential tools tailored to their unique needs and goals. Our academic advisors are seasoned professionals with relevant academic backgrounds and practical experience, providing comprehensive support throughout the student's educational journey.

Our Academic Advising Team:

  • Christina Garten - Graduate Students (MBA, M.S. in Strategic Leadership, M.S. in Finance, Graduate Certificates, Paralegal Studies)
  • Deb Rebman - Graduate Students (Education Programs, OTD, Master of Music Education, Graduate Certificates)
  • Stephanie Hughes - Undergraduate Students (Accounting, Business Administration, Health Care Administration, Human Services, Human Services - Behavioral & Addictions Counseling, Professional Studies- Core Program & General Electives)

Upon acceptance into SGPS, students are assigned an academic advisor who guides them through college transition, major/minor declaration, course selection, registration, and understanding academic support services, institutional policies, and academic integrity. Advisors also help students develop educational plans aligned with their personal and career goals. The SGPS Student Handbook and the college’s student portal, JayWeb, complement the advisor's role, encouraging students' active engagement in academic decision-making.

Where to Get Your Textbooks

The College Store at ½ûÂþÌìÌà provides textbooks, with the option for students to source books from alternative vendors, ensuring they get the correct editions. Customized books may be exclusive to The College Store. Direct textbook payment over using financial aid is encouraged. If it becomes necessary to withdraw from a course, federal regulations specify a Title IV Refund Formula be used in calculating the refund amount. That amount will then be returned to the aid source, not the student, and students may then owe money for the cost of the books. If students instead pay for the books up-front and later have excess aid funds left on account, those monies will be refunded to the student. Additionally, The College Store offers a buy-back program during finals week of the full-semester day program. For specific buy-back week hours, students should contact the bookstore.
